Day 3 - Holding on to the wrong things

Writer: eddiejcampaeddiejcampa

Revelation 2:13-16

"I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan's throne [is]. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas [was] My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. "But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam..."Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. "Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.

The church of Pergamos was the third church that Jesus addressed in the book of Revelation. Even though the church existed in the religious center of pagan worship, the church remained faithful to Christ. The verse points out that Antipas was faithful even unto death.

However, there were some major concerns that Jesus mentioned. While their faith was in Jesus, they held on to the doctrine of Balaam and the Nicolaitans which have their roots in sexual immorality and pagan worship. Jesus used the word hate to describe His passionate dislike for that. Why? It's a simple answer. Whatever you hold on to will eventually hold on to you.

Are there some things that you are holding on to that is not pleasing to God? Is there a habit, an attitude, a behavior, a sin that you need to let go of? Listen, if you don't let go of it, you will eventually become what you are holding on to. Jesus told the church of Pergamos to repent. In other words, let those sinful practices and false beliefs go and turn to God with your whole heart. Are you ready to make changes in your life?

  • Consider your life

  • Make the decision to change

  • Let go of the past

  • Embrace God all the way
